The German auteur’s latest, Rescue Dawn, is the best film to hit theaters during this popcorn-overloaded season, and I was fortunate enough to speak to the director for SOMA magazine – in person – about his latest work, Transformers, the state of documentary filmmaking, and his ongoing search for “ecstatic truth.”

Well Nick, that must have been a thrill to meet Werner!
Only that he just keeps on repeating the same things over and over. His observations are important but for a fan like me it sometimes sounds like a broken record.

Yeah, meeting Herzog in person was something else.
And you’re right – since meeting him and writing the piece over a month ago, it seems like many other articles have contained very similar quotes.
