  • 2010 Film Critic Polls

Aside from contributing to Slant Magazine's year-end feature, I was also fortunate enough to be invited to participate in three 2010 film critics polls, held by The Village Voice, indieWIRE, and The L Magazine (respectively). My ballots for the first two, and the third's final results, can be found below. The 2010 Village Voice Film…

  • Slant Magazine’s Best of 2010: Film

Despite the usual critical complaints about the lameness of this year's cinematic offerings (most of which pertained to mainstream Hollywood's underwhelming output), I thought 2010 was particularly strong, especially – as I note in my intro to Slant's end-of-year piece – for female lead peformances and documentaries. • Village Voice 10th Annual Film Critics’ Poll

To wrap up the 2009 year-end lists, I was asked to participate in The Village Voice's 10th Annual Film Critics' Poll. The feature, and my ballot, can be accessed via the below links. Village Voice 10th Annual Film Critics' Poll and My Ballot

  • 2009: Year in Film

Another year, another superb (if I do say so myself) end-of-year feature over at Slant, where for the first time ever we compiled a composite Top 25 list. As I write in the intro to the piece, this was a pretty excellent year for film, provided you could find the good stuff amidst the usual…

For the fourth straight year, I was fortunate enough to be asked to participate in indieWIRE's annual film critics poll. The poll results, as well as my ballot, can be found at the below links. indieWIRE Annual Critics Survey 2009 My criticWIRE page, with 2009 Survey ballot

  • 2008’s Comeback Kids

In all the year-end hoopla, I seem to have forgotten to post a link to my second 2008 wrap-up feature for IFC News, which details the year's best and worst comebacks. Here it is, late but still delicious.2008's Comeback Kids (For Better or Worse) (IFC News)

  • indieWIRE: Critics’ Poll ’08

For the third year running, I was invited to participate in indieWIRE's annual film critics' poll. While the poll's final results will be released shortly, ballots have already gone online, including yours truly's, a link to which can be found below. My indieWIRE Critics' Poll '08 Ballot

  • 2008: Year In Film

With the year coming to a close, it's time again for the annual ritual of critics' top ten lists. Over at Slant magazine, Ed Gonzalez and I (as well as Bill Weber and Andrew Schenker) detail our favorites from 2008, a year that didn't exactly overwhelm with amazing films but offered enough good stuff to…

  • Happy Holocaust!

For the first of my two year-end features for IFC News, I take a humorously critical look at this award season's notable trend: Holocaust-themed dramas. Dear Moviegoers — Happy Holocaust! Love, Hollywood (IFC News)

  • 2007 LA Weekly/Village Voice Film Poll

2007’s last (list) hurrah arrives in the form of the LA Weekly/Village Voice Film Poll, which returns after a one-year hiatus and, like so many other critics lists, is topped by There Will Be Blood. My ballot, which differs only slightly from the one I submitted for indieWIRE‘s poll, can be found at the below…
