Sunday Night Updating

Up1 This weekend's review update – featuring my last write-up's for The Screengrab, which officially signs off today – is a bit late. But it makes up for its tardiness with some – gasp! – honest-to-goodness positivity.

Out Now:
Up (The Screengrab)
Drag Me to Hell (The Screengrab)
Pontypool (Slant magazine)
What Goes Up (Slant magazine)

  1. Regarding the review of Drag Me to Hell, I’m curious what you mean by “a more twisted, greed-run-amok available alternative.” What might such an ending look like?

  2. SPOILERS AHEAD:
What I was referring to was an ending in which she wasn’t just punished for her original misdeed, but instead escapes the curse and thus becomes a symbol of the way in which you CAN get away with being a greedy, soul-sucking financial industry scumbag. And, perhaps she takes this lesson to heart, and thus triumphantly becomes the callous, self-interested cretin that the old woman took her for at film’s start. I was implying something along those lines, which would have been more unconventional than what transpires during the last scene.
